Making Law School Affordable: Scholarships for September 2023

All fall lovers look forward to the month of September. This is the season of pumpkin spice and colorful leaves. However, September is also the season of law school admissions! Many schools begin accepting law school admissions on September 1st. 

Students who are applying to law school should also apply to external scholarships. These are scholarships offered by various businesses and organizations. Notably, these scholarships can be applied to tuition at any law school, which allows applicants to consider pricier schools. Therefore, if students are applying to law school, they should also be applying for external scholarships! Here are a few scholarships to consider applying for with deadlines in September. 


The Napaba Law Foundation is offering law scholarships for students committed to helping the Asian American community. Applicants apply through a combined scholarship application. Thus, students will only have to complete one application but will be eligible for five different scholarships. Applicants must be currently enrolled in law school to apply. Interested students can learn more information here. All applications are due by September 4th. 

The Devadross Law Firm Civil Rights Scholarship awards one student $1000 for law school related expenses. Applicants must submit an essay or record a video answering three questions: What are the most important Civil Rights that affect millennial workers? Do millennials need to be better informed about how they can protect their rights in the workplace? How can workers ensure they understand their rights and protect themselves? Candidates must be current or aspiring law students. All applications are due on September 12th. Learn more here

Salvi & Maher LLP offers the Law School Opportunity Scholarship. This scholarship seeks to promote diversity within the legal field. Applicants must record a video describing what unique perspective they will bring to the legal field and how this perspective will help them achieve their legal goals. Candidates must be attending college or law school in Fall 2023 to be eligible. All applications are due by September 14th. The winner will receive $1000 to utilize towards law school expenses. The Daniel R. Bercalis Scholarship seeks to help single parents who are planning to attend college. Candidates must write an essay connecting their status as a single parent to their choice to pursue higher education. All applicants must be single parents with proof of enrollment in a university for Fall 2023. Applications are due by September 21st and the winner will receive $1000. Interested applicants can learn more here

The Cores Future Law Scholarship asks applicants to record a video of themselves describing their future in the legal field. Applicants must define their legal aspirations and what inspired them to consider pursuing law. The winner of this scholarship will receive $2000 for law school related expenses. Individuals planning to attend or currently enrolled in law school are able to apply. All applications are due by September 26th. Learn more about this opportunity here
